ok, so i think the runes were... idk, preparing me for something? i mentioned in my last post that i got a rune reading and they said i was writing for the wrong reason (content creation, notoriety, etc.) my original idea was to post my stories on r/nosleep. it used to be my favorite subreddit and a lot of the stories there inspired me to write more.
well, this morning a post popped up on r/creepypasta about how the creepypasta community has shifted into something insufferable. one of the comments also talked about how hard r/nosleep has fallen. every story has the same formula, the posting guidelines are rediculous, the mods power trip, etc. so i took a look at the guidelines. turns out they changed from the last time i shared a story.
the restrictions on what makes a story scary are unhinged. or if there isn't enough action in one part, it gets removed and deemed "not scary enough." you can't used a fictional character's full name becasue it somehow breaks reddit's tou on doxxing. same for naming fictional towns in real states. which is weird because i've never had issues with either of those things. you can't write a story about mental health, which i guess i sort of understand to a point, but so many of the og stories involved mental health. all stories also have to be paranormal in nature, which also disqualifies a lot of the good old stories. one commenter said a mod told them that "war is not inheringly scary." said mod is clearly some privelaged basement dweller in the us who never had to face the horrors of war and genocide because ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?
suddenly, my desire to even attempt to post on r/nosleep is gone. it's truly not the community i once loved. there are other subs with similar themes. maybe i'll give one of those a try when i'm ready.
