i never sought out oliver tree's music while he was alive. his music and content would come across my fyp, and i didn't go too deep into it. not that i didn't think it was good. i did. but something stopped me, and i think i finally know what it is. this post isn't to garner attention at the expense of a dead man. this is just something i need to get out.

my mom has halfheartedly called what i experience a "gift" for a lack of a better word. it's far from a gift and at times it makes me feel and sound insane. this post will sound like the incoherent ramblings of a schizoid, but i can live with that. between visions, voices, apparitions, prophetic dreams, and all the otherworldly fuckery i've experienced, the feeling of a lingering presence that i can't see or interact with is the worst. i feel it when someone is dying or about to die, even when i don't know they're suffering. i feel it along the road where deer fester and bodies are found discarded like trash. i feel it on people who i beleive have killed others. i felt it from oliver's music.

i know now, having listened to his entire discography, that they lyrical content of so many of his songs involved death. but having only heard short clips of his biggest hits on tiktok before his death, i knew nothing about the themes of his music. still, every clip i heard, every video that popped up, that feeling was there. it was creepy, and nothing about oliver's music was creepy. who heards "life goes on and on and on and on" and gets a shiver down their spine?

me, apparently. just me.

it's death. that's the feeling. death lingering around the corner like a goofy halloween cartoon. and i tried to ignore it, but i can't now. it was attached to his music. it was probably a part of the man himself. he was living on borrowed time, and the more i learn about him, the more i realize that he knew it. maybe he felt the same feeling, and that's why the themes of death appeared in his work so often.

i know. it's insane what i just typed. i don't blame anyone for getting angry with this post (if anyone even reads it.)

i hope i never feel that feeling attached to someone's creations ever again. it's bad enough when it's attached to a person in general, but this felt worse. so much worse.

goodbye, oliver. i'm sorry i didn't pay your music any attention before your passing. you were a fucking genius, and i'm glad i'm listening to it now.
